Industrial & Manufacturing · Solutions playbook
When unplanned downtime costs millions per hour, unverified AI output is physically dangerous.
For VP Manufacturing Operations · Plant Reliability Lead · Director of Engineering · OT Security Lead
Chapter one
The problems you already budget for.
Unplanned downtime on brownfield lines
Aging PLCs and SCADA estates with no documentation and tribal-knowledge fixes. Industry analyses (Senseye/Siemens) put automotive downtime around $2M+ per hour; Siemens estimates downtime costs Fortune Global 500 manufacturers a double-digit share of revenue.
Engineering knowledge drain
Retiring controls engineers leave with undocumented ladder logic, PLC configurations, and custom middleware. Deloitte/NAM studies project millions of unfilled US manufacturing jobs and ~$1T revenue at risk by 2030, driven largely by irreplaceable retiring skill.
OT/IT fragmentation
Machine data (OPC UA, AAS), engineering data (PLM), and operations data (CMMS/EAM) sit in disconnected silos. The IDTA Asset Administration Shell v3.0 is emerging as the interoperability contract — but nothing unifies the context around it.
IEC 62443 compliance on custom shop-floor code
OEM customers increasingly write IEC 62443-4-1 secure-development conformance into supply contracts — and 'trust me' AI diffs break the change-management evidence chain the standard demands.
Chapter two
Why the tools you've already tried fail here.
- Cloud-only Copilots cannot reach plant networks — controls and embedded repositories sit on offline or on-prem GitLab; offline offerings are minimal and metered by licence calls home.
- Regulators and OEM customers demand traceable change records for safety-relevant code. An unverifiable LLM diff breaks the 62443-4-1 evidence chain.
- The relevant knowledge lives in PDFs, EPLAN/CAE files, PLM revisions, and retiring engineers' heads — not in a GitHub repo an assistant can index.
- Process recipes and part programs are trade secrets. Sending them to a vendor-cloud LLM is a non-starter for German and Japanese industrial groups.
Chapter three
The Mindaeon answer.
Every answer below is a shipped capability, not a roadmap item — each named mechanism exists in the platform today.
Downtime and tribal knowledge
The integration hub syncs the whole estate — Jira Data Center, Confluence, Jenkins build logs, SonarQube quality gates, SMB file shares with NTLMv2 signing and SMB 3.x encryption, SQL historians — into one searchable context store with provenance on every record. When the engineer who knew the line retires, the context stays.
Integration hub · 25 connectors · context store with provenance
No cloud jurisdiction over plant data
Air-gapped installation from a signed bundle: no telemetry, no update checks, no CDN assets — held by a test, not a promise. Any model, including models served locally on your own GPU servers.
Air-gapped deployment · zero telemetry · local models
Safety-adjacent code changes
Every change an agent proposes passes verification gates before it counts: tests run outside the agent's writable mount, mutations injected to prove tests fail when logic breaks, and a human approves by default. Nothing unverified reaches a PLC-adjacent artifact.
Verification gates · host-enforced test integrity · approval by default
62443 change-management evidence
Every agent action lands in a hash-chained, tamper-evident record — changing an entry, removing one, or cutting the end off is found by walking the chain. Chain heads export to your security monitoring as conformance evidence.
Hash-chained audit · SIEM export · per-tenant chains
Chapter four · worked scenario
A line-down incident, end to end
A packaging line faults at 03:40. The controls engineer who wrote the interlock retired two years ago. The on-shift technician opens a Jira ticket.
- 01
The ticket is connected, not isolated
Mindaeon's black-spot scan already mapped this line's dependencies: the Jenkins job that builds the HMI patch, the SonarQube project gating it, the SMB share holding the EPLAN drawings, the SQL historian with the fault signature. Nothing is a black spot.
- 02
An agent assembles the context
Searching the context store — filtered to what this technician may see at the source — the agent pulls the fault signature, the last five similar tickets from Jira, the relevant Confluence runbook, and the interlock code from GitHub Enterprise Server.
- 03
It proposes a patch under policy
The agent drafts the patch against policy: read access to the historian, no writes without approval. The diff, its evidence trail, and every action it took are recorded against the technician's identity.
- 04
Verification before anything counts
The gate runs the regression suite outside the agent's writable mount, injects mutations to prove the tests can fail, and blocks a weak assertion. The patch waits for the engineer's approval — from the console, or one tap on a phone at 03:47.
- 05
An audit-grade record exists before the line restarts
Approval, tests, evidence, and deploy are chained by hash and exportable as IEC 62443-aligned change-control documentation. The next auditor gets a walkable chain, not a binder.
The outcome. Mean-time-to-resolution on undocumented faults drops; the knowledge drain becomes survivable; and every fix carries its own evidence. That is the ROI case: one avoided incident pays for the platform.
Chapter five
The regimes this maps to.
Mindaeon's audit records, verification gates, and deployment model are designed against these frameworks — evidence, not assertions.
- IEC 62443 (4-1 secure development lifecycle, 3-3 system security)
- IDTA AAS v3.0 / IEC 63278
- OPC UA (IEC 62541)
- EU NIS2 · EU Cyber Resilience Act
- ISA-95
Chapter six
What we can show you.
- Air-gapped install demonstrated offline with local-model inference — no egress.
- Change record exported as 62443-aligned change-control evidence from the hash chain.
- SMB shares read with NTLMv2 signing, SMB 3.x encryption, and Windows ACL awareness — own-file DACL SIDs mirrored, Everyone maps to nobody.
- One line-down scenario automated end-to-end on customer tooling: Jira → patch → SonarQube gate → Jenkins deploy → audit chain.
